Monthly on day 1
Life is a game of chess, the winning move is always with the Queen. I aim to prove this by pursuing a degree in journalism to start an entertainment magazine. Reporting on my personal adventures and leading experts, the entertainment magazine helps achieve the following goals: holistic edutainment, job creation, and community enrichment.
A number of growing studies show that single-parent households have a negative impact on the social and emotional development of children. For adults now 18-34 who may have resided in this statistic, which has doubled since the last census, alongside this economy, the entertainment magazine will be a guide for holistic edutainment. Both my parents are teachers, so mentoring is hereditary. Fashion, music, and film are the most popular sources of entertainment that influence self-definition. Therefore, I reach my first goal by bringing entertainment stories that build a healthy self-esteem. Because people learn differently, I also diversify our subject matter with content format like presenting gossip, commentary, and tutorials in addition to news.
Reaching my second goal lies within the college experience itself. A college campus gives me access to thousands of my target subscribers. Similar entertainment magazines have failed because they focused on distributing to stores and securing advertisers. For only $1 per month, I can build a solid fanbase through subscriptions at a price affordable to over 90% of the population. Subscribers mean residual income without depending on advertisers. And residual income provides the capital needed to offer part-time jobs and paid internships to my peers. I invest in the people who have invested in me. Furthermore, the best way to the get the best jobs in journalism is with an internship. And you have to be enrolled in college to complete that mission, plus a loyal consumer base from fans of the entertainment magazine will give me an edge over other applicants.
For only $1 per month, I can also publish the forty-page glossy. 50% editorial and 50% advertising, printing with small businesses like Prima Atlanta is one way the entertainment magazine enriches the community. My media outlet gives entrepreneurs competitive advertising options to grow their business. We all know a growing business makes a growing economy. Not to mention, I give 10% of all advertising sales to a worthy cause. So far, my awareness has raised $703 for Make-A-Wish GA to sponsor a child’s wish.
In conclusion, A real artist uses what they have to create what they want. Most scholarships require an essay detailing how the degree sought can be used within their industry to impact society. Thus, the very pursuit of continuing my education showcases journalistic prowess, while developing the content needed to launch America’s next leading entertainment magazine. I only hold certifications in radio and television production from local public access programs. With your help, I can achieve all my goals by attending Ashford University this spring!
We are currently accepting donations made payable to Ashford University or General Sons and Daughters (GSAD) in support of my continuing education. GSAD is an empowerment and prevention program of the Church of the Living God (501c3) that awards scholarships to help people just like me. Funds from GSAD help cover books, living expenses, portfolio projects, scholarship apps, student loan repayments and other unforeseen circumstances affecting my education.
